Cupcake has arrived!
Cupcake arrived about an hour and a half ago. Cupcake appears to be a great potential driving prospect. She has some blue roaning in her though she is not a true blue roan. We are planning on putting her up for adoption within the next couple of weeks if we don't train her to drive. If we teach her to drive, we will postpone the adoption until after she is trained.

Cupcake
Cupcake is a new mini to the rescue/sanctuary. She will be here later on this week. This picture of her was from the ad that was posted.
We have been told that she is about 4 years old. She is not a show mini nor is she broodmare quality. We still don't have much information on her at this time, but we will update the information when it becomes available.

update on Chiclet
Chiclet is doing well on a third feeding. She gets 2 quarts (1 qt alfafa pellets and 1 qt stable mix) with a medium sized bucket of alfalfa leaves. During her mid day meal (lunch), she is put in a pen by herself and she eats at her own pace.
When she gets close to finishing her lunch, she steps into the feeder with both front feet and finishes. When she is done, she walks over to the gate and waits to be let out.

Today is a typical day here at the sanctuary. Clean up after the animals, clean water containers, and so on.
We have been in search of some land that can be donated or that we can buy that isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg. So far, our primary focus of search has been in the Corning, CA, Oroville, CA, and some in the Orland, CA area. We have looked "some" in the Tulelake, CA, Redding, CA, Red Bluff, CA, Bieber, CA and Klamath Falls, OR Silver Springs, NV areas. We are open to other areas. It just takes a lot of time searching. The ranch owner says he thinks this ranch will be sold to developers within the next few months.

Chiclet
A few days ago, Chiclet had dropped some weight suddenly. We didn't quite know at first why she dropped the weight. She had appeared to be eating well. We checked her for dehydration and she wasn't dehydrated. So we thought we would separate her and give her some straight pellet food. For every bite of food she was picking up, she was dropping at least half of the food.
So we concluded since she was in the pen with other horses (the older ones), she would drop her food and they would eat it and so she wasn't getting enough to eat. She is now separated from the other horses when she eats her main meals and she is being given alfalfa leaves and a combination of alfalfa and stable mix grain.
She is now doing sooooo much better.

fences and gates
Today, we spent a great deal of the day mending fences and fixing gates that were in need of repair. We still need to do some more work on the fences and a couple of gates, but we need to go out and get some material before we can finish off the work.
